What is link crew? Link crew is a group of students in grade 11 and 12 that are around to help out any students that may need assistance. On August 30th, 2018, link crew had a grade 9 orientation to help get the grade 9’s get a feel of Canterbury before they came to school on September 4th for their first year of high school. Link crew is a very helpful and eventful program at Canterbury.
"I joined link crew because I wasn't able to participate in all the events when I was in grade 9" said Sarah Bui "I didn't want that to happen to the new grade 9’s at CHS I want to motivate them to get out of their comfort zone".
in Sarah's opinion Link Crew is fun and it involves a lot of socializing and intriguing events. "My favorite part about link crew is orientation I got to made the grade 9’s comfortable and got them ready for high school".
"In link crew you learn so many different skills like social skills, organizational skills and time management. When some of the students are outside of link crew activities they tend to be more shy so i try to make them feel as comfortable as i can without being overwhelming. in the end I think link crew is a great place for me and i'm proud to be apart of it". -Sarah Bui
Link Crew organize events such as, movie nights, parent teacher interviews and link crew lunches to make the grade 9’s comfortable to the new change of environment of a high school. Link crew sets a good image for grade 9’s and it’s that friendly face in the hallway they can rely on.
Link Crew makes grade 9’s feel safe and secure, a source that grade 9’s can always go to for any kind of problem.
They can tell you important upcoming events and can help you find your class, clubs, events, sports schedules and etc. Link Crew even has social media pages students can follow to get important information. Link Crew leaders reach to their grade 9’s the best they can.
They create group chats and make amazing get togethers that encourage more relationships between their crews.
"I joined because I realized how big of an affect link crew had on me in my grade 9 year". said Demitria Vallentgoed
"I probably wouldn’t have adapted so well to Canterbury if Link crew wasn’t there for me during orientation and during the first few weeks of Highschool".
Demitria realized she wanted to pass it all off and hopefully help some grade 9’s adjust.
"we All know that adjustment and change isn’t easy"
"What i Hope to get out of link crew is get a deeper understanding of a true leader. And I do hope to get good confidence in myself".
"Because at link crew sometimes you are pushed out of your comfort zone and doesn't really feel great at first, but then it turns out you truly have a great time and usually don’t regret it later".
So hopefully link crew will give me those fun, more outgoing confidence. Further thoughts I really hope that this program continues. It's a wonderful group of people that get together. You make friends, build as a group and yourself as a character.
Link Crew is a Student Leadership Program, A Link crew member helps students make friends at CHS. A member went around on their own lunch break to help grade 9’s have somewhere to go at lunch or find a social activity to participate in link crew leaders sarah B and demitira V,
During lunch there are many activities and many new friends to make but it's understood that people can be shy and keep to themselves. people can be independent, these link crew members Sarah and Demitria made sure their group of assigned grade 9’s were always well taken care of and always checked on them if they ran into them in the halls, and encouraged them to take part in sports teams or join a club, they didn't want them to miss out and regret not engaging in school activities.
