Jules Tomlinson Photo Essay- Making A Luna Moth

In my photo essay I wanted to capture a process not a lot of people get to see. As a hobby I make stained glass pieces, specifically suncatchers. The artistic world of stained glass is very niche, so I always enjoy showing off how much work goes into each project.
I wanted to make my friends each a piece as a gift for the upcoming holidays, and I have to start sooner rather than later since it's a tedious process. One of my friends was telling me the story of how their mom had grown a specific garden in hopes of attracting a Luna moth. The two of them ended up successful in the endeavor, and doing that together made the moth my friends favorite critter. I wanted to make a luna moth out of glass to immortalize this story as a gift.
Unfortunately some of the more challenging aspects of glasswork didn't translate well into pictures, but overall I think I was able to show how a design goes from a pattern to a piece. Any pictures meant to highlight cracks or broken pieces came out blurry and unusable. I found that when the piece is held up at the end you can see all the imperfections, so at least they are partially captured.
