Macaroni and cheese, what an amazing combination. Imagine eating mac and cheese with its ooey-gooey-cheesy- deep-fried goodness. With all the different kinds of mac and cheese to taste and with its unique flavors, you will definitely be coming back for more.
This fall, The "Mac my Cheese Festival" is returning to Ottawa -- at City Hall's Festival Plaza, no less!
The event runs from Friday, Oct. 12 to Sunday, Oct. 14, starting each day at 11 a.m. at 110 Laurier Ave. West. There will be live entertainment throughout the festival and a contest to see who makes the best mac and cheese in Ottawa. The Mac and Cheese Festival is in its second year in Ottawa, but is already getting the kind of buzz of popular food festivals that happen each and every year.
“This will be my first time going to the festival and I’m excited to try different mac and cheese, especially the deep fried mac and cheese balls,” said Simbi Robahusha, a Gr. 11 Canterbury student.
Newcomers to the festival will have a lot to look forward to this year. Ottawa festivals have been growing with many people attending them and becoming regular attendees. For most people, when you think of mac and cheese, the first thing that comes to mind is Kraft Dinner. But, the "Mac My Cheese Festival" is way better than plain old Kraft dinner, as there are many different kinds of mac and cheese to be expected on the menu.
“I am very excited to try some of the vegetarian mac and cheese,’’ said Gr. 11 student Holly Hall.
This year's festival will be bring back old favorites with a gourmet twist. There will be so many different dishes to try like lobster, traditional, Thai, pulled pork, to name a few. The festival was a big hit last year for the Canada 150th celebrations and that was the first time that the Mac and Cheese festival came to Canada. Since then, it has been a big hit and hopes to join the ranks of perennial food festivals in Ottawa.
The festival first started in 2015 and has been recognized city-wise, and with it coming back to Ottawa, it is going to be bigger than ever, bringing people into the downtown core outside of Ottawa's usual tourist seasons.
The festival will also include live performances including Alanna Disaster, Evil Creek, and many more. There will even be open mic venues. The Mac and Cheese Festival will also have food demos, a Best Mac and Cheese contest, and perhaps even an eating contest.
The ‘Mac My Cheese Festival’ this year will be something you do not want to miss. With a lineup of great entertainment and different vendors, you do not want to miss out on this once a year festival with its ooey-gooey-cheesy goodness of mac and cheese.
