Hands are the tools artists underestimate the most. Whether it’s holding a pencil, molding clay, guiding a pen or dipping a bristled paintbrush in a container of murky water most artists use their hands every day. We really don't spend too much time thinking about our hand's posture or even the way we hold a pencil. In my photo essay, “All Hands on Deck” I captured photos of student artists here at Canterbury (including myself) drawing mostly hands. Throughout this essay I was astonished at just how many different way artists tend to hold a pencil and was amazed with all the incredible art I was able to photograph in the process of being made. I hope you enjoy too.
