Dog Days!: A photo essay by Ryzen Topp

Dogs! You know them, you love them (I hope). Their affectionate nature, their adorable faces, and their simple lives! Most of us love a good dog photo, and a lot of us like a little bit of fun, small stories. In my photo essay, I photographed my dog in his different states: the sleepiest boy in the world and the most excited. I hope to capture his nature and day-to-day life through my photos. It was difficult for me to narrow it down to 15 photos! I took over 150 photos originally! But I hope you enjoy the photos I have here.
Picture
My subject, my sweet dog Umber. We adopted him in April of 2025, and he's about 5. But you wouldn't guess by his appearance and attitude! He acts just like a puppy.
Picture
He simply MUST be on the couch to snuggle.
Picture
It's almost time for a walk, one of his favourite parts of the day...
Picture
...and one of his least favourites to get ready for. He doesn't like putting on his little dog boots, so we put this balm on the soles of his feet.
Picture
Hey, at least he's ready to go! It takes a moment to get the leash on because he's just SO excited. It doesn't make taking pictures easy either.
Picture
And off we go! He likes to decide where the road will take us.
Picture
Striking a pose for the camera!
Picture
Curious as ever, he digs in the snow for whatever could be hidden.
Picture
Hey, man, I think you've got something on your face...
Picture
Yep, I think you got it. A good shake to get the snow off!
Picture
Almost home...
Picture
Post-walk zoomies! He gets even more excited coming home than he does going out. I think he just really likes the sunroom.
Picture
And these zoomies often involve taking the nearest toy and tearing it to shreds.
Picture
A day filled with walks and relaxation and eing loved tires a guy out.
Picture
A very handsome boy.
