In the Dead of Winter
Winter time is known to be a slurry of working, sleepiness, and cold. But have you ever stopped to look and realize that it's actually more alive than you could have known? If you look close enough you can see livelihoods with exploring humans, trees that still have green, and even animal tracks.
With this photo essay I wanted to capture how beautiful winter really gets because I find that during this time of year, no one takes a moment to truly soak in where we live. Not everyone gets a privilege like this to even see snow. I tried to go out and capture life during this dreaded cold (while nearly freezing off my fingers, too). I hope this inspires you to go out there and really take this all in for yourself. Enjoy my photo essay and see if you can spot the animal tracks!

A frozen stream underneath a fallen tree
With some footprints around
Staghorn Sumac
This is a staghorn sumac. It's root system keeps it alive and well during the winter and lets it keep its beautiful red colour.
Snowshoe tracks
Humans out exploring the cold.
A path through the trees
A village of birdsnests
A women bundled up walking her dog
A thick forest
The shell of a milkweed
Underneath this log, there lies ground untouched by snow
A falling tree with turkey tail fungi
Turkey tail fungi grows all year round
