Art is a centerpiece of the experience at Canterbury. All over the school, beautiful pieces of art can be found year round, from murals to sculptures. Public art is a fantastic medium of expression that has become deeply valued, especially by arts students. The murals that cover the walls serve as an expression of creativity and uniqueness that makes Canterbury stand out. Art is a leading focus in the lives of Canterbury students, but is it quite as important to the rest of Ottawa? As Canterbury proves that a little bit of art can liven up even the most ordinary places, I set out to locate beautiful pieces of art sprinkled around Ottawa that gives our city unique, beautiful spots of color and something beautiful to appreciate even in the dreary winter months. By locating statues, paintings and murals hidden in Ottawa's most popular locations such as the Byward Market and Sparks Street, this project sets out to prove how public art can brighten any space and give a city a unique feel. Whether it be downtown or the side of a coffee shop in the Glebe, the endless creativity of Ottawa artists is on full display for all to enjoy and revel in the creativity, color and bit of life that it brings to our home city.
